Driving Music

March 16, 2011

When you have to wake up super effing early to go to work, and need that extra boost to keep you going in the morning, you need to make sure your car is stocked with some good upbeat tunes to start your day off right, and for any time you will be driving for that matter.  Within the last week or two, these are the albums that have kept me going in the morning, and for the rest of the day, driving wherever I felt the urge or necessity to go.

1.Hercules and The Love Affair- Hercules and The Love Affair:  This 2008 self-titled release features so many musicians going through realms of  funk, classic soul, neo soul, dance club jive, electronica, techno whatsit, and truly is a force to be reckoned with, and to be enjoyed.  An intriguing and motivating listen all around.

2.Yeasayer- Odd Blood:  And odder still is the diverse range of comparisons and seeming influences from  their Indie pop contemporaries such as Grizzly Bear, MGMT, Beach House, or Vampire Weekend, and classic acts like Talking Heads, and 80’s bands such as Tears For Fears or Duran Duran.  It’s all here, organic, tribal sounds, mixed with paranoid layers of computer age ambience.  And their videos are stranger still.

3. Gogol Bordello-Trans-continental Hustle:  What good can’t I say about this album?  You can tell they are one of the more socially conscious, politically charged groups out there, but they are also unafraid to have a good time while spreading their message of punky gypsy amazing!
