The Future of Tomorrow

June 2, 2015

Disney’s Tomorrowland was a veritable crowd-pleaser, and a visual delight. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews of this, but everything I had worried about in reading them, is severely unfounded. Disney’s most recent spat of summer failures is finally at its end one might say. I mean what was that “Lone Ranger” bs anyway? Though they’ve already cut their losses by acquiring Marvel and Star Wars, and with the records broken once again by an Avengers movie, they really have nothing to worry about, not to mention that they are Disney and they pretty much run the entertainment industry. Tomorrowland delights by reminding us of the power of our imagination and its lack of limitations, while also reminding us of our impending doom, a doom which may be postponed, if we begin to care. Many have passed this message off by saying it makes the film too moralistic, or some such thing. But I think the entire point of the movie is to instill hope for the future, is to ensure that we do something about this road we are going down, and no we can’t just run off to some pocket dimension and create a better future to somewhere down the line share with the real world, it still gives us hope, and what’s wrong with hope. The story is interesting, and there’s just the right mix of humor, drama, and true heartfelt emotion that all of the over the top imagery still finds itself balancing in the world of the real. You don’t see this enough in mainstream cinema if you ask me.

Looking For Light

September 6, 2014

It’s okay not to be okay,
Or so they say.
But who are they, and why aren’t they here?
Why do they say that?
Do they know, do they think and feel?
Why is it okay?
It doesn’t feel okay,
It never does.
How could it?
People are so different from one another,
So is it really safe to assume,
That one person can experience a moment,
Like any other individual person?
I don’t think it works that way.
It never seems to.
It’s so hard to know yourself,
But when you try to know someone else?
It’s a battle, it’s a struggle, it’s a war at times.
But if the other people are important to your life,
Chances are it will all work itself out.
Stay cool, go with the flow, be yourself.
The only way another can truly know you,
Is if you are you all the time, not just sometimes.
Don’t pretend in order to impress,
Don’t hold it inside.
You have something to say?
Try your damnedest to say it.
Communication is important in all things.
Life, love, happiness, heartbreak, loneliness.
Everything is key, everything is essential.
This is life,
And nobody said it would be a fucking walk in the park,
Although that does sound kind of nice right now.
Just talk it out, write it down, live it to your very fiber.
Don’t forget to remember that the world is bigger than you,
Even though it may not seem so at times,
So harsh, so unforgiving.
Look for light,
And once you find it…

MLK Jr. Day

January 22, 2013

Today was the annual observance of Dr. King’s birthday.  I heard no mention of him all day, and I thought it a damn shame.  Dr. King did so much good for America, and for the World at large, but not a single mention of him was made.  Just another day where school and banks and town offices are closed, nothing more.  All he lived for, all he died for, where was it mentioned?  A great speaker, an amazing leader, and a man whose life was cut short for saying we should all love each other.  Don’t let his dream have been in vain, always imagine betterness for this world, and spread all the love you can.  If someone can get shot down for simply speaking their mind all those years ago, for spouting a message of peace no less, aren’t some of these new gun laws past due?  Dr. King  will never be forgotten, as long as there are those of us striving to change the world for the better.  So remember who today is really for.
