This is harder than slaying dragons or throwing magic rings into the fires of Mt. Doom, methinks, but it is worth it! Given that this is all on my itunes, I do like most of it. But all the same, listening to it in order like this is causing me to combine certain artists or styles that I wouldn’t be otherwise in my typical listening sessions.
Antony and the Johnsons- Antony and The Johnsons This man’s voice is so hard to explain, but suffice to say, this album is worth a listen just to hear his unique voice. Twilight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woNHdyw8hho
Tom Waits-Asylum Years It’s Tom Waits. Need I say more? Tom Traubert’s Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkOMiA_uGso
Cyndi Lauper: At Last As a big fan of interesting covers, this album does nothing but satisfy. I adore Cyndi Lauper, and she’s one of those artists most people either like or they don’t. But even Cyndi naysayers shouldn’t bypass this album. Although I haven’t listened to it for a while, I have been a great fan of this album for quite a few years now. La Vie En Rose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqbuNzyyq6A Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZPgTJ-EoIE
Flaming Lips- At War With The Mystics: I absolutely adore the Flaming Lips, and aspire to one day get to see them live in all their glorious ridiculousness and beauteous sounds. Wayne Coyne is the mad genius we all should hope to be as cool as one day. This album is one of my most listened to, if only because it comes early in my library, but at the same time, it is one of their most solid and fun offerings.
The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjrUOlK2714&ob=av3e Mr. Ambulance Driver: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEWViGmX8Lw
Counting Crows- August and Everything After: An album I don’t remember frequently enough. I would say this is their best album. And it’s easy to see why with songs such as: A Long December: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1D5PtyrewSs&ob=av2e
Austin Powers Soundtrack: It’s just really fun! One of my more often replayed soundtrack albums. Great blend of retro and retro sounding music. Because who can get enough of Strawberry Alarm Clocks’ Incense and Peppermints?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOk2T6Uweao
Roxy Music- Avalon: It’s a great Roxy music album and also a great chillout, naptime, album. More Than This: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9PAuWV-Vn0 Avalon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpA_5a0miWk
Avenue Q- Original Broadway Cast Recording: One of my favorite musicals, and one of the best shows I ever got to see on Broadway!!! Yes I did see original cast. Be jealous! So do I have a favorite song from it? Hardly. There are too many great ones, and some aren’t as fun to share out of contexts with those unfamiliar. Hmm….. How about some Schadenfreude?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvcRQiOraGE
L’arc-en-Ciel-Awake: A good album by a Japanese band, with a French name. Used to be a lot more into JRock or Japanese rock, doesn’t mean I’m not still a bit into it. But, for one, it’s gotten a lot harder to acquire it in the States. Alas! But this is the band that got me into it. Lost Heaven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C8ckQXoA0U Killing Me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcvpojEGN3Y Hoshizora: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W-tHCwqINE&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL8E7E42E6944666E1
Sigur Ros- Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do The three tracks on this recording are more like parts of one complete piece. And as it’s Sigur Ros, the explanation is a bit hard unless you are listening to it. So, just listen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uykpSjXxAGw
AC/DC- Back In Black: As classic as this album is to most people brought of on good old Rock music I won’t go into much explanation here. And now thanks to The Avengers, this album can only remind me of Tony Stark/Iron Man anytime I hear it. Hell’s Bells: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Kjh9lQXLWk Back In Black: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBQ0_9IFzU0
Amy Winehouse- Back To Black: The album that really made people notice her. And what talent this album shows. What promise! I wish I had paid more atttention to her amazing music when she was still among the living. We lost her too soon, and if this album is proof of just how much she could give the world, she will not be forgotten anytime soon either. Back To Black: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJAfLE39ZZ8&ob=av2n You Know I’m No Good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-I2s5zRbHg&ob=av3e
Barenaked Ladies- Barenaked Ladies Are Men: One of their more recent outings. And although there is a lot of different stuff going on in this album, it is hardly memorable compared to any of their previous work! But I’d say my favorite song is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnZZ3_bwnWQ
That’s all I have for this night, Be on the lookout for part 5 and other assorted and random fun things!
Cheers,
Craig
